Built work

Timesquare Advertising Office
2013, 4th Ave Parkhurst

While in my third year of studies I had the privilege of designing the interior tenant installation for an advertising firm in Parkhurst.

The brief called for a high end 'front of house' and a more relaxed studio towards the back as well as two extra meeting areas.

This was both daunting and incredibly rewarding, as working with such experienced and talented creatives pushed me well out of my comfort zone. The design was a collaboration between Kim Millar, Gary Millar, Mike Kane-Smith, Lizanne Visser and I.

[MOVING BRANDS, MOVING PEOPLE]

When it comes to an advertising firm, brand identity is key and as their slogan suggests, this company is going places. So naturally it was decided that dynamic movement was the main concept. This was conveyed through small nuances of their corporate identity  that were incorporated into the design by means of colour, material and construction methods.

THIS CONCEPT IS ENFORCED BY:

  • use of 'floating' functional spaces

  • diagonal accents on the feature walls

  • dynamic look of OSB wooden flooring

  • raw elements juxtaposed with finished ones

  • rhythm of small spaces and larger ones

  • central organising element or spine which seems to hold it all together

This is an ongoing project but I feel so honoured to have been part of the design and construction phases.

LESSONS LEARNT:

  • on site management and logistics

  • problem solving

  • performance under pressure

  • technical communication

  • building servicing and trade scheduling

  • total project comprehension

  • design equates to 10% getting it done is the other 90%
